very basics
First we will start with the very basics. A guitar has 6 strings: 1st E, 2nd B, 3rd G, 4th D, 5th A, 6th E. These are written from bottom to top, they are done like that because the bottom strings are higher pitch. So actually the top string of your guitar is the lower (in pitch) E string. To tune your guitar you will want to have an electronic tuner. You pluck a string and the tuner will tell you which way to turn the tuning keys (little pegs at the top of the guitar). Next we will talk about frets. Frets are the little metal bars running along the guitar neck. We put our fingers by these bars to make chords. You want to put your fingers on the left side of the bar, as close to it as you can. When placing your fingers we need to remember that if you are looking at the palm of your left hand your fingers are numbered from left to right with your pointer being 1, and your pinkie 4 .Ready to learn some chords? First we will star with the G chord. This is one of the three most basic chords. To make the g chord you put your 3rd and 4th fingers on the 1st and 2nd strings at the 3rd fret, your 1st finger also goes on the 3rd fret, but on the 6th string finally your 2nd finger goes on the 5th string at the 2nd fret.
